The National University of Colombia, largest in the country, has dedicated over 150 years to making higher education accessible to all regions, including the most remote ones. Each year, the university publishes hundreds of academic works showcased in this catalog. For the 2020 edition, the editorial team aimed to create something engaging and different, with the purpose of educating about the university’s nine diverse campuses across Colombia.
Creating an explorer's world
I designed the catalog as a travel journal through Colombia's diverse regions, presenting information in the style of travel notes and including hand-made samples of indigenous languages spoken in the communities visited, who have an important presence in the academic life. Even though spoken by very few, communities have preserved their ancient languages as one of the most powerful acts of resistance against colonization.

Handwritten custom lettering: "National University of Colombia, scientific, cultural and collective project of the nation."

Iconography
In order to create a whole explorer's world, a design system was developed highlighting key symbols representing each area. Stamps, maps, sketches, and notes were integrated to allow readers to explore and learn more about the cultural richness of our country.

Stamp pictograms representative of the journey across the country

Illustrations of the most representative buildings of each campus

Stamp symbols for each of the knowledge areas included in the catalog.
